About Candlewyck

We are “a fellowship of new beginnings”. No matter where you are on your spiritual journey, we want to help and encourage you. We’ll help you discover what a “real relationship” with God is all about and all He has created you to be. Christ-followers will have a place to get connected and serve others. Everyone is welcome.

Missional Vision

Candlewyck’s vision is to lead people to become devoted followers of Jesus Christ, who are on mission with Him in His world.

Core Values

  • A commitment to the lordship of Jesus Christ as the central unifying core of who we are as a church
  • A commitment to being transformed to be more like Jesus as we embody His life, values, attitudes, character, and mission in the world through the study of God’s Word, prayer and power of the Holy Spirit
  • A commitment to joining God on mission in a specific place in our community/world through an outwardly focused small group
  • A commitment that every Christ-follower is called to be on mission and is spiritually gifted to serve Christ by serving others
  • A commitment to being inconvenienced and/or sacrificing to reach uncommitted people as Jesus did
  • A commitment to use creative, culturally relevant methods to reach those who have not responded to Jesus’ transforming love

Jim Korth

Transitional Pastor

Jim Korth was called to serve as Transitional Pastor at Candlewyck in February 2017. Jim brings 15 years of pastoral ministry experience and has assisted churches in launching new outreaches and maximizing their potential to reach their community for Christ. His training includes a Bachelor’s Degre in Bible from Cairn University and a Masters of Religious Education in Ministry from Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary.

Jim’s key verse for serving at Candlewyck comes from 1 Samuel 12:23 which reads, “As for me, I vow that I will not sin against the Lord by ceasing to pray for you. I will teach you the good and right way.” (HCSB)

Jim Wood

Associate Pastor of Worship

Jim actually grew up as a teenager at Candlewyck and left in 1990 to continue his education. Since his return in August 2009, Jim has been leading the Worship Ministry at Candlewyck in one form or another. Although the piano is his primary instrument, he has learned to play saxophone, hand bells and guitar. Jim has been married to the love of his life, Sheri for over 20 years and they have 2 sons: Kellen, and Connor.

Jim attended high school here in Charlotte at Providence Senior High School. He would later attend Mars Hill University obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Southeastern Baptist Theological where he earned his Masters of Divinity degree.

Dakota Drake

Student Minister

Dakota is originally from Asheville, NC. He and his wife Brittany married in July of 2013 and moved to Charlotte to start their life together. Though they each traveled down separate career paths, they’ve always had a passion for youth ministry throughout college.

Dakota has been the youth minister at Candlewyck since summer of 2014. He teaches music and Brittany is a behavioral therapist. They love the youth and have a true passion for guiding them through life as Christ-followers in a, sometimes, crazy world.
